DEREK M HAAS has been a member of the New York City entertainment industry for the last 20 years. With television and theater experience, which began in Atlanta, GA, arriving in NYC sparked Derek’s passion for design and the theater. He began his work in a variety of notable scenic shops in the city in capacities ranging from master carpenter to project manager.
In 2003, Derek received his Master’s of Architecture from Parsons The New School for Design, which drove him onto a more design-driven career track. From that point on, he found that he enjoyed being a scenic designer and production manager in the film & television, theater, retail display and live event industries. Derek employs his wide-variety of skills and talents to lead crews and projects from design inception through fabrication and completion.
Derek enjoys designing and building furniture for his family and friends, as well as designing the restoration of classic homes. In his spare time, he dabbles in amateur photography, relishes being out in nature, sketches, reads and adores being an active father to a curious and creative little boy. Derek works in the NYC metropolitan area and lives in Maplewood, NJ with his wife and six-year-old son.
